An Evening Out In New York

An Evening Out In New York    by Rosemary McQueen

We first had to pay a $5.00 cover charge then we were warmly greeted by Ina before we passed a crowded bar and found a table for two in the rear. We had to get our drinks at the bar, as we didn't find any waiters to serve us. Tina went to the bar and bought drinks for the both of us.

We sat down with loud disco music blaring away and a few ""girls" were discoing on the tiny space between tables. The rear room was decorated with paintings of the area and the tables had candles on them. I was wearing my new, blue denim jumper with a beige blouse with flowers around the neckline and flowers on the jumper shoulder straps and patch pockets. I wore low-heeled beige shoes with a red wig. Tina wore a pretty pink medium length print skirt and matching blouse and 3 inch white heels.

The Silver Swan is a comfortable place for all transgender "Girls" and Ina has made it that way because she goes the extra mile to make guests feel welcome. It is a great place for those who are new to going out dressed and it offers a place to change. As we sipped our drinks we watched the "girls" dancing while we engaged in "girl talk". Since I was "in the closet" for the best years of my life, I imagined what I would have looked like out there when I was young. I had natural blond hair and by today's styles I probably would have had long blond hair to go with my blue eyes. Tina asked me if I would like to disco, which I would ordinarily like to do, but it was getting late and I wanted to go because of the long drive home to Central New Jersey.

We met the photographer from FemmeFever, "Father John", who did a photo-op of me over one year ago and he did the photo of me in my red dress that has appeared in the "Wild Rose of the Chesapeake" several times. I told him how disappointed I was that my appointment for a makeover and photo-op was cancelled at the last minute causing me to use another professional photo of me that was taken by Simone at SNR without a makeover or a retouch. The cancellation was not the fault of "Father John", but the lack of interest of other FemmeFever members.

The Silver Swan gets a real mix of clientele as new crossdressers as well as transsexuals in transition are both found there. The place gets many admirers, many of whom just go as voyeurs. The crowd does not begin to show until midnight and things more or less heat up around 1:00 AM.

It was after 1:00AM when we decided to go home. Ina said goodbye to us and said that she was glad that we came. Both of us walked the streets back to the garage carrying our heels because of the long walk and the long night. While crossing one of the wide avenues, there were people waiting to cross and one man said to me "Hi Redhead". I just smiled and looked straight ahead. As an older woman it is nice to be still noticed and or admired.

We retrieved my car from the garage then I had trouble finding Canal Street and the Holland Tunnel entrance. I arrived at my home at 3:00 AM and I showed Tina where Route 33 is then she drove to her home after a warm Sister hug. We had a great time and I called her the next day to see if she arrived home safely.
