Worshipping As a Woman

by Barbara Van Horn

Photograph of National City Christian Church Most in our chapter know that I am an active church member. I am asked occasionally where members of our chapter could worship en femme. Rachel has told me she was very pleased to worship as a woman in Williamsburg, but that may be a bit far for most of us to go. However, there is a church much closer.

The National City Christian Church in Washington, DC may be just the church you are looking for. In July 2001 the national GLAD Alliance recognized National City as an "Open and Affirming Ministry" for its inclusive ministry with the GLBT community. I have contacted Charles Keener who welcomes your presence and inquiries. You can reach Charles by telephone at (202)462-5934, or you are welcome to contact him by e-mail.

Charles tells me, "NCCC is definitely an O&A church, and we did our first same sex union in June. The couple adopted an infant last week, which was announced in the service along with two heterosexual couples' new babies."

Many of us feel a special need to sense God's love for us just as we are. For many seeking and meeting our Creator who knows our hearts and loves us unconditionally provides comfort beyond words. To do so it an accepting and supportive environment is truly a blessing.
