The HRC And Crossdressers
But, even if one were to be able to pass 100%, I think we would quickly feel out of place in our work environment, simply because people would still know it was "you", and (maybe) half the people you work with would never speak to you again. The plight of the TS gives us a good indication how things would go for "us".
A good friend of mine some years ago (OK, 10) decided to come out at work. Out of, maybe, 20 people in her facility, about half gave her the cold shoulder, and would only speak to her when the job required it. Of the remaining 10, only two or three readily accepted her as the person "they used to know". In fact, we would probably run the risk of getting canned for crossdressing at work, even though it would be against the law... they would find a way.
Do you think it would be any better for us when going to the mall or the supermarket if we had a law? Probably not. People would still point and stare. We would still get nasty comments from teenage boys. And so on, you get the point.
It will take decades for crossdressing in public to be accepted as normal, maybe even longer.
And we even have some in our own ranks who make it harder. One crossdresser I know is adamantly against gay marriages. I asked him why. It has its roots in the fact that he is a Christian, and it goes against what he believes. While that in itself is a whole discussion, I pointed out that if he supports the current administration's effort to ban Gay marriages, does he think they will stop there (his answer was actually indifferent)? What's to say that they won't "come after us next?"
It's a scary thought, but one that needs to be pondered on when going to vote in November. The Democrat's are typically FOR individuals rights, while Republican's ARE NOT. Their track records speak for themselves. I state fact, and not my opinion or political beliefs.
That and their fight against partial birth abortions are the two latest examples of them taking away our freedom. I know these are highly explosive topics, and many will disagree with my choice of examples, but if we are to survive as crossdressers, we need to consider what has been going on, and what is to come, regardless of which party you vote for. Yes, we need to move ahead, but that in itself, is not the whole answer.
Choose wisely, Grasshopper.
