Playing Catch Up With Shana       by Shana Roberts

Many researchers believe that the part of the brain that controls gender can become more male or female oriented, depending on the amount of estrogen or testosterone we are exposed to during development.

She stated that (with the little bit of post death research into the brain that has been done, and she emphasized it hasn't been on very many "patients") there seems to be similarity in the size of the anterior hypothalamic gland in women and gay men, and, in a study by Zhou, the BSTc is the same size in F2M TS' and women, which is smaller than it is an a "normal" man.

The BSTc is part of the hypothalamus gland which controls our sexuality (I think…..she said a lot, and it's hard to keep it all straight). Anyways, there was a lot of audience participation, as she was bombarded with questions. We thank Dr. Thomas for taking time out of her busy schedule to be with us; especially since she wasn't sure if she was going to make it because she was losing her voice (we had several others absent because of being sick... hope ya'll get well soon!).

IF YOU HAVEN'T PAID YOUR ANNUAL DUES YET, please do so, so we don't have to drop you off the mailing list. Dues are $36, and $48 per couple. You can send the check, made out to CES, to the PO box in Brooklandville MD (#505, zip is 21022).
